Since 1976, Linda Schmitz Cannon has created well over 1,000 original artworks in pencil, pen and ink, watercolor and oil.
A member of the Indiana Artists, Linda served on the board for a number of years and was the president for two. One of her oil paintings, Be Still, was a top award winner in the 82nd Indiana Artists exhibition at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. In 2016, she painted an oil portrait of Mrs. Conner and an acrylic landscape of the prairie. Both are displayed at the Conner House, Conner Prairie Museum.
An art educator since 1977, Linda has led private and semi-private classes, summer camps and workshops for all ages. At the Indianapolis Museum of Art, she was a docent for 17 years and instructed the community outreach program, Search and Discover, for five years.
Cannon launched her Young at Art classes at the IMA in 1990 and then expanded them to the community in a variety of locations and by means of Artist-in-Residence programs throughout Indy and neighboring schools.
Children’s choir director, teacher, administrator, Christian education and children’s director, Linda has been actively involved in children’s ministry for over thirty years and currently ministers through art, writing and teaching.
In addition to her writing, studio schedule, residencies and art classes, L. S. Cannon also loves developing art projects with her husband, a graphic designer, time with family and friends, gardening, visiting museums, caring for wildlife, hiking with her dogs and reading . . . usually with a cat by her side.
